In modern society,people are under increasing pressure from work and life.Comedy movies,as a good way for people to reduce pressure,enjoys growing popularity,which is why the box office keeps setting new records.As international exchanges are increasingly frequent,more and more Chinese films are going to the world.Chinese films and television works are witnessing vigorous development.And subtitles serve as a bridge for foreigners to understand Chinese movies and even appreciate Chinese culture.As for comedy movies,the translation of humor is especially important,for it determines whether the movie’s effect can be transmitted to the audience.It not only determines the audience’s viewing experience,but also can affect its box office.Taking skopos theory as the theoretical framework,based on the characteristics of subtitle translation,this paper conducts a case study on the bilingual subtitles of the Chinese film Lost In Russia.Skopos theory maintains that the most important factor that affects the process of translation is the purpose of translation action.It gives priority to the acceptability of the target audience,so that the audience can better understand and appreciate the film.The author divides the humor in the film into three categories:universal humor,cultural-related humor and word-play humor.Through specific analysis of this film,this thesis discusses the translation strategies adopted in subtitle translation from the perspective of skopos theory,and attempts to summarize strategies and techniques,so as to provide reference and guidance for future subtitle translation.The thesis aims to focus on the following questions:1.What translation strategies did the translator adopt to translate the humor in Lost In Russia?2.What strategies work best to translate the humor under the given purpose?...
