A Report On Mock Interpreting Of Round Table China ——The Problem Of Self-Repairs And Coping Strategies In English-Chinese Simultaneous Interpreting

This report is based on a Mock Interpreting practice of a talk show named Round Table China: “Friends”Frenzy Over Long-Awaited Reunion,the time of the material is 59 minutes.This program includes a host and two guests,who are free to discuss in the form of round table talks.The program is a talk show on improvisation,and the source language material is fast and disfluency.This brings many difficulties and challenges to simultaneous interpreting.Guided by Gile’s Effort Model,this report introduces the Gile’s Effort Model involved in simultaneous interpreting and how to apply it to self-repairs in simultaneous interpreting and coping strategies.Combined with the analysis of the source language,the target language,and the transcribed text,this report summarizes three reasons for the interpreter’s self-repairs: source language self-repairs,logic confusion of source language,disfluency of the source language.The interpreter divides the self-repairs in this report into three categories:appropriateness-repairs,different information repairs,error-repairs.Under the guidance of Gile’s Effort Model,omission,recombination,amplification these three strategies are selected.Through these three strategies,we can solve the problem of self-repairs in simultaneous interpreting,and improve the quality and efficiency of interpreting.The interpreter summarizes the main findings of this mock interpreting report,and under the guidance of Gile’s Effort Model,interpreting skills and rational distribution of effort can reduce self-repairs in this mock interpreting practice.The interpreter hoped that this practice can provide reference and enlightenment for more interpreters and learners of interpreting in the treatment of self-repairs in simultaneous interpreting.
