The translation report is based on Translation and Own-language Activities. The first part of the book is chosen as the translation material. This book is an academic book published by Philip Kerr in 2014.The author points out a series of key methods for the use of translation and own language, and to emphasize the function in language teaching. Therefore, the language of this book is concise and with strong logical coherence. In order to reproduce the source text features and styles, the translator adopts some translation strategies in this report. In this translation report, the author gives a brief overview of the main content and language features of the source text and then concludes the particularities of the English academic text. The author selects some typical cases, and makes a detailed analysis of translation at the lexical and syntactic levels,by closely complying with the stylistic features of the source text.At the lexical level, words conversion, amplification and omission are the main strategies employed in the translating process. At syntactic level, the translation strategies of voice conversion, inverse translation, division and recombination are adopted for the translation of passive sentences, causal relation sentences and long sentences with complex structures in academic texts.Through this translation practice,it is concluded that due to the differences of grammatical structure and semantics between Chinese and English, based on the context and the habit of expression in Chinese, the translator should apply certain translation strategies to achieve a smooth and objective translation, more in line with the characteristics of academic text when dealing with the translation of words and sentences.Figure 0;Table 0;Reference 22.
