An English-Chinese Translation Practice Report On The Power Of Personality

With rapid development of science and technology and further deepening of globalization,the translation of applied texts such as popular science texts is becoming increasingly important.However,translation of such texts has been uneven in quality in recent years and needs to be improved.The Power of Personality belongs to the popular science work,which has introduced different characteristics of introverts and extroverts as well as differences between the two in practice.The literary forms of the book can be described as objective and discreet with the aim of delivering scientific knowledge and information to readers in a simple and clear way.Therefore,the main task for translation is to convey the major information and take similar readers' response of both source text and target text into consideration.In this translation practice report,a large number of typical examples have been selected from the translated version of The Power of Personality to analyze how to employ proper translation techniques to promote the accurate delivery of scientific knowledge and improve the translation quality of popular science texts.The analysis has been conducted from such three aspects as lexicon,syntax,and text in combination with the core concept of Functional Equivalence Theory.Through the translation practice and the case study,the translator has come to conclusions that the theory plays a significant role in guiding the translation so based on characteristics of different texts,the translator should select theories which are of instructive and feasible value to translation of such texts;to some extent,adopting appropriate translation strategies and techniques and applying what has been taught in class to practice can effectively improve the readability and acceptability of translations;after translating the text,utilizing the theory and techniques and analyzing the cases,the translator has learned to integrate theory into practice,thus,further strengthening abilities of translation and practice.Figure 0;Table 0;Reference 36.
