In 1936,Japan invaded the southwestern region and forcibly set up an illegal establishment in Chengdu.This behavior was opposed by the people of Sichuan.The Sichuan people set up opposition groups in Shanghai and other places,and the local people in Sichuan set up opposition conferences for publicity.On August 24 th,a conflict the Sichuan people and the Japanese broke out in Chengdu and eventually evolved into Chengdu Incident.After the outbreak of the Chengdu Incident,the Chinese local government and the central government tried their best to control the situation,hoping that Chengdu Incident would develop into a local incident and be resolved as soon as possible.They even pushed the responsibility of the incident to the Communist Party.However,both the Japanese government and the Japanese people believed that this event could be exploited to negotiate with and press the Nanjing government to obtain benefits beyond the incident.At the beginning of September 1936,Foreign Minister Zhang Qun and the Japanese representative began to negotiate about Chengdu Incident.China representative had been hoping hoped that ChengduIncident would be resolved in accordance with international practice.However,Japan believed that only re-adjusting diplomatic relations between the two countries would completely resolve Chengdu Incident.After eight sessions between Zhang Qun-Chuan Yue Mao in the three-month period,the final agreement on the adjustment of the international diplomatic relations was not reached,and the Chengdu Incident remained in a stagnant state.The two countries started the adjustment of diplomatic relations between the two countries because of Chengdu Incident.When the adjustment of diplomatic relations ended,they returned to solving the Chengdu incident itself.In the end,China did not lose its sovereignty and settled the Chengdu incident in accordance with international practice.
