The translation of long English sentences has all along been a thorny problem in translation practice.Of two different language families,English and Chinese differ substantially in syntactic structure,as shown in 1)English is hypotactic while Chinese is paratactic;2)The information focus of English is at the front of the sentence while that of Chinese is at the end;3)Noun and preposition are predominant in English sentence structure while in Chinese sentences verb is predominant.This paper presents a study on the translation of long English sentences from the perspective of syntactic disparities between English and Chinese.Through the translation of the introduction of The Gamification of Higher Education,six translation methods are exemplified to cope with long English sentences translation.
