To Heroes in the Snow Mountain—Tibet 1949-1960 is an epic which truly records that since 1949,officers and intellectuals of the People's Liberation Army, with the 18~thh Corps as the main body, marched into Tibet and conducted democratic reform in Tibet up to 1960.The C-E translation of To Heroes in the Snow Mountain--Tibet 1949-1960 is the“Key Translation Project of Silk Road Fragrant Books Project 2016”entrusted by Sichuan People's Publishing House. The author was assigned the last three sections of the fourth chapter. This report is based on the C-E translation of To Heroes in the Snow Mountain--Tibet 1949-1960(excerpt).Under the guidance of Catford's translation shifts theory,it gives a detailed description, analysis, summary and reflection on this task. This translation report, based on Catford's translation shifts theory, elaborates how the category shifts have been employed to instruct this translation task, and its further improvement.According to the specific difficulties in this translation project,in chapter four, the author selects some cases to illustrate the first three aspects of category shifts, namely, structural shifts, class shifts and unit shifts. In terms of structural shifts, the translation methods the author adopts include restructuring long sentences in the source language, shift between postpositive attributes and prepositive attributes as well as inverted sentences. As for the class shifts, the author mainly adopts shift from verbs to nouns, verbs to adjectives and other class shifts. The main methods of unit shifts include shift from clauses to phrases and from sentence group to sentence.Under the instruction of Catford's translation shifts theory, many difficulties and problems have been solved in a comparatively effective way. This translation practice is the author's first attempt to translate Chinese literature. The author hopes that this project can purvey some references for the overseas scholars to conduct the researches of Tibetan history and culture.
