An English-chinese Translation Report On The Operator's Manual Of Automatic Box-making Machine

This report makes a review and summary of the whole translation process based on the English to Chinese translation practice of The Operator's Manual of Automatic Box-making Machine.It mainly focuses on the difficulties confronted and the translation methods adopted in the translation process.The difficulties in the translation can be divided into two planes: the lexical and the syntactical.The lexical difficulties include abbreviations,sub-technical terms and general vocabulary;the determination of their meaning is executed by looking up reference books and parallel texts.The syntactical difficulties come from the translation of passive sentences and complex sentences;for faithful and smooth conversion of the meanings of the source text,different approaches are employed,including voice conversion,amplification,division,inversion and recasting.In addition,this report gives an introduction to the application of Memo Q,a computer aided translation software,and its importance in translation,including its function of keeping the original format of the text,ensuring the consistency of terms and improving translation efficiency.
