Cross-border higher education,a vital part of internationalization in universities and colleges, has been working as one of the effective measures to build “Double First-class” universities.Aiming to facilitate development of cross-border higher education in UESTC,International Office introduces and translates the book Governing Cross-Border Higher Education. The author is assigned the translation of chapters 1 and2,which contain quite a few terms in international education. However,it is found that there are few standard and consistent translations for the terms in the source text, which brings comprehension obstacles for readers and,to some degree, exerts negative effect on the development of international education. In view of this problem, the author,by comparing different translations of terms, explores the relatively appropriate versions and completes the translation practice report. The author regards Feng Zhiwei's terminology theory as the guideline for term translation in this practice report.Furthermore, eleven principles to name terms are studied in detail, respectively professionalism, conventionality, monosemy, scientificity, motivation, conciseness, productivity, stability, systematicness, veracity and internationalism.Under the guidance of the above principles, relatively feasible versions can be figured out by taking the denotation and connotation into consideration. The report consists of five chapters.Chapter One introduces the background and significance of the project.Chapter Two constructs the theoretical basis, including the relationship between term and terminology as well as eleven principles in terminology theory.Combining the characteristics of the source text,Chapter Three analyzes the features of international educational terms.Meanwhile, through the study of parallel texts,it screens out the high-frequency terms and widely-used translation versions.Chapter Four, based on the preparatory work, conducts case study of terms at three levels: student, institution and government. With the guidance of terminology theory, various versions are compared on the basis of denotation and connotation to explore more appropriate translations of terms.Chapter Five firstly summarizes the principles followed in the case study, then the problems for improper translations are analyzed, providing reference for translators and readers. In the end, limitations of the report are pointed out.
