A C-E Translation Report On X Power Plant Construction Scheme

The hydro-power cause of China has imported a great deal of foreign advanced equipment of hydro-power and promoted the cooperation between Chinese enterprises and foreign merchants.Entrusted by a hydro-power plant from Xichang city,the author needs to translate X Plant construction scheme so as to assist the Plant and Siemens' engineers in repairing the electrical equipment.This technical construction scheme focusing on the procedures to the maintenance of electrical transmission tubes.At Lexical level,the source text mainly contains professional terms including electrical engineering,chemicals and construction tools.At syntactic level,non-subject sentence and run-on sentence are two main features.At textual level,the original text is featured by recurrence of lexical terms and implicit logical connection.In view of the classification of Newmark's text typology,technical text belongs to informative text,which is different from the literary one.It is worth mentioning that communicative translation is relatively appropriate to guide the translation of informative text in order to accurately and fluently convey the information and features of technical texts.However,conservative strategy should be taken to translate the technical terms,which means semantic translation can be used to guide the translation of technical terms.Besides,communicative translation and semantic translation should be used as a whole in the translation practice.Thus,guided by communicative translation and semantic translation,different translation methods can be adopted to translate the features of the construction scheme.At lexical level,semantic translation can be the main strategy to ensure the accuracy of the technical terms,and communicative translation can be the supplement to deal with hard and special terms.At syntactic and textual levels,communicative translation is the dominant strategy to help the target text smooth,clear and fit for the using habits of the target language.Absorbing the advantages of communicative and semantic translation is a decent strategy to translate technical texts.Based on this translation practice,the author of this report also introspects,concludes and puts forward some suggestions,hoping it can provide some help for Chinese to English technical translators.
