In this translation report, the source text selected by the translator is a report on Australian energy policies titled Energy Policies of IEA Member Countries: Australia 2018 Review, available on the official website of the International Energy Agency. This report offers insights into two areas of Australian energy policies: Australia's transition to a low-carbon energy economy and its related challenges, and the role of natural gas in this transition. This translation report consists of five chapters: an introduction to the project, translation process of the project,a brief exposition of the Vinay and Darbelnet translation model, case analysis and conclusion. The translator applied seven translation techniques of the Vinay and Darbelnet model to translate proper nouns, sentences with passive voice, attributive clauses and long sentences in the light of vocabulary and syntax.China,as one of Australia's major customers of energy resources, always pays attention to the development of energy resources and official policy changes in the energy sector in Australia. However, many Chinese professionals, including academics, researchers and energy practitioners are unable to obtain the first-hand information in this important sector due to language barriers and time constraints. This translation practice provides Chinese researchers and practitioners with easier access to energy policies and research data for a specific developed country,Australia. In addition, this translation report offers insights into the application of the Vinay and Darbelnet translation model for English to Chinese translation of reports on national energy policies and provides references for future translation practice in similar fields. The main difficulties that the translator encountered when translating were the technical terms and the professional knowledge of the sector. Thus, the translator believes an excellent translator should possess an excellent command of both the source language and target language, and the professional knowledge of the area covered by the source text.
