Translating foreign excellent science fictions can not only meet the demands of Chinese readers but also promote the development of Chinese science fiction and the science fiction industry. The author had an opportunity to participate in the translation of the novel The Reality Thief written by Canadian writer Paul Anlee on the platform Fiberead, which is devoted to translating and publishing e-books on the Internet. The novel,as a science fiction, has three distinctive features: scientificity, popularity and literariness.Vinay and Darbelnet propose two general translation strategies: direct translation and oblique translation. The two strategies include seven specific procedures: borrowing, calque, literal translation, transposition, modulation, equivalence and adaptation.By classifying and analyzing the shifts in the translation process,it is found that Vinay and Darbelnet's Model can offer guidance for the translation practice.Direct translation is used for translating scientific terms and neologisms to realize an accurate transmission.Amplification and annotation are added to make readers fully understand the original text and form a complete concept.Oblique translation can make the target text both intelligible and readable. The literariness of science fiction can be reproduced by a combination of direct and oblique translation. The expected effect of reading can be achieved and scientific and cultural value can be transmitted by a flexible use of various direct and oblique translation strategies according to the features of science fiction.
