Spatial-numerical associations are the current research hotspots in the field of digital cognition.As,the Spatial Numerical Association of Response Codes(SNARC)effect was an important phenomenon of the associations.The working memory account about the SNARC effect explained that the SNARC effect may be due to the serial order of the number in working memory,that is,the sequence front-end project activates the faster left side response,while the back-end project activates the faster right side response(Fias,van Dijck,& Gevers,2011).In addition,some researchers have explored the impact of whether the ordinal position in working memory is retrieved on the SNARC effect,but the results are not completely consistent,so the impact of retrieving the ordinal position in working memory on number-space associations needs further verification.This study combines the existing research paradigm to explore the spatial-numerical associations characteristics of the working memory item order position retrieval and non-retrieval.Examined 143 college students as the subjects,firstly,to examine the specific influence of retrieving the position of working memory items on the spatial-numerical connection;secondly,to verify the effect of working memory on the connection with the vegetable-fruit words that do not contain quantitative information.Next,to explore the main changes in the SNARC effect When the ordinal position of the working memory sequence is not retrieved;finally,verify the results of Experiment 3 with non-digital materials,so as to more accurately explain the impact of the sequence position of working memory items on the spatial-numerical connection.The results showed that:(1)Under the condition of digital as material,when retrieving the position of the working memory sequence,a main effect of ordinal position and a significant interaction between ordinal position and response side were observed(p<.05).In addition,drts regression analysis of digitals did not show negative regression slope(p>.05),indicating no SNARC effect was observed;Drts regression analysis of ordinal positions in working memory sequence found a significant negative regression slope(p<.001),indicating the presence of the ordinal position effect.(2)Under the condition of vegetable-fruit words as material,when retrieving the position of the working memory sequence,a main effect of ordinal position and a significant interaction between ordinal position and response side were observed(p<.001).The drts regression results found a significant negative regression slope(p<.001),indicating there was an ordinal position effect.(3)Under the condition of digital as material,when the position of the working memory sequence is not retrieved,a significant interaction between numerical magnitude and response side were observed(p<.01).Drts regression analysis of digitals showed a significant negative regression slope(p<.01),indicating a strong SNARC effect was observed;Drts regression analysis of the ordinal position in working memory sequence found an insignificant negative regression slope(p>.05),indicating no ordinal position effect was observed.(4)Under the condition of vegetable-fruit words as material,when the position of the working memory sequence is not retrieved,all main effects and interactions were not significant(ps>0.05),indicating that there is no SNARC effect or no ordinal position effect.According to the above results,the study draws the following conclusions:(1)The ordinal position of the working memory sequence has an effect on number-space associations,under working memory conditions,a temporary connection is formed between the items and the space according to the requirements of the task situation;(2)This impact depends on whether the ordinal position of the working memory sequence is retrieved,When the ordinal position of the working memory sequence is retrieved,there was no SNARC effect but an ordinal position effect;When the ordinal position of the working memory sequence is not retrieved,there was no ordinal position effect but a SNARC effect;(3)The effect of positional extraction of working memory sequences on digital-to-spatial connections is not affected by the type of experimental material.
