A number of teachers are still concern how to cultivate students' ability to get high scores in examination and don't realize the significance of oral English.In terms of students,owing to preparing for examination,they lack of chances to improve their oral.The Communicative Approach emphasizes the usage of language and focus on cultivating students' communicative competence in rural school.Under the guidance of relevant theories,this paper attempts to apply the Communicative Approach to improve students' communicative ability in rural junior middle schools.There are three research questions in this paper,there are:(1)What are the factors affecting the application of Communicative Approach in rural oral English teaching?(2)How does the oral teaching based on Communicative Approach stimulate students' interest in learning oral language?(3)How can teachers effectively apply the Communicative Approach to oral teaching?The author conduct the research for four months,these participants are chosen from grade 9 of Zhazuo Middle School in Guiyang city,Guizhou Province,the number of the participants is 89.One class regarded as an experimental class,the other is a control class.At the beginning of the experiment,the author carry out the oral pre-test,all of the participants in the two classes are tested,and randomly distribute questionnaire to the students and English teachers in this school,which aim is to understand the current situation of oral teaching and the attitudes of teachers and students towards oral English;During the experiment,the experiment class is taught by Communicative Approach with student-centred,students are involved in communicative speaking activities;However,the controlled class is taught by traditional teaching method with teacher-centred,there is no any interactive activities are designed in class.In the end of the experiment,all of the participants are take part in the oral post-test.All the data are collected and analyzed by Excel.By comparing the experimental data,the following are the major finding of the thesis: The research found the factors that affecting oral English teaching in rural junior middle schools are: Not only the teaching methods are traditional,but also the classroom is boring;The teacher's professional knowledge and teaching skills are of poor quality,lacking a language environment for learners;Teachers are not focus on oral English because of the influence of exam-oriented education;Students are introverted and have psychological barriers.Applying the Communicative Approach can stimulate students' interest in spoken language and improve their oral communicative competence,it can help the English teachers to teaching oral English effectively.Based on the theory of Communicative Approach,the author puts forward some feasible strategies for applying the Communicative Approach to oral teaching,such as changing traditional teaching concepts,improving teachers' professional skills,creating an interactive environment,and helping students to build self-confidence and so on.This research further enriches the application of Communicative Approach to oral English class in rural junior middle school,and provides suggestions for oral English teaching.
