| With the deepening of globalization,the exchanges and cooperation among multinational corporations become increasingly frequent.The most direct and effective way to know the development and business performance of a company is to read its annual report,therefore the translation of the listed company’s annual report becomes increasingly important.What’s more,the accuracy and objectivity of the translation of annual report is the basis for communication and cooperation between companies.This translation project is the 2017 annual report of IBM.Founded in 1911,International Business Machines Corporation(IBM)is the world’s largest information technology and business solutions company and Fortune 500 company.IBM has developed countless great products that have made tremendous contributions to the whole society.As a bridge of communication and cooperation between companies,annual report is featured with multiple functions,including informative function and vocative function.Therefore,based on text typology theory of Peter Newmark,translating strategies should be varied in accordance with the different functions of the annual report in this translation practice to ensure that the multiple functions of annual report are effectively transmitted.Based on the informative function and vocative function,the translation report analyzes specific performance of these two functions,that is,how to transmit information and appeal to the readers.Specifically,different solutions are put forward to achieve accurate information transmission,including rendition of established expressions,logic rearrangement,and information supplement.In order to reproduce the vocative function of the annual report,highlighting of mood with the use of adjectives and parallelism and verbal optimization with the use of four-character words are mainly discussed.In this way,the dual function of the annual report can be achieved by takingaccount of the reader’s reaction while accurately transmitting the original information. |
