As international exchanges have become increasingly frequent in recent decades,annual report,as one of the most information-based business texts,can help Chinese enterprises to have a better understanding of foreign companies and strengthen extensive exchanges and cooperation.The original text is an excerpt from 2017 D.R.Horton Annual Report,mainly focusing on business,risk factors,legal proceeding.Two purposes can well explain why the translator chooses it as the source text of this translation task.First,the translation of annual reports is a typical non-literary translation with strong purpose and practicality,thus further improving the translator's translation capability.Second,based on features of this kind of business text,this report discusses the practical application of functionalism in the translation of annual reports,which is helpful to preliminarily summarize methods and techniques of translating such texts.The translator take theory of text typology as a guidance to solve problems encountered in this translation process.To begin with,annual report should be formally standardized and well expressed.And functionalism theory has made a breakthrough from the linguistic "bottom-up" mode(from words,syntax to discourse)to the "topdown" translation mode(beginning with text),which can help achieve the stylistic characteristics and style equivalence of English and Chinese versions.Next,Reiss' s text typology suggests that informative text requires effective communication and consistency with the original text.The annual report is kind of informative text so that lots of subheadings and long complex sentences involving delivered information should be concise and fluent with fidelity.Then,many technical terms,proper noun and polysemy do exist in the original text while the informative text requires direct and complete transmission of the conceptual content of the source text.So,by use of text typology,the accuracy of financial and legal terms and other information can be ensured.Lastly,a more comprehensive conclusion of preparation prior to translation,inprocess translation difficulties and solutions and quality-control after translation is given by the translator.Simultaneously,she also puts forward some ideas of being a qualified translator and hopes that her experience of translating an annual report can make a reference to other translators in the future.
