The Project Report On E-C Simulated Simultaneous Interpreting Of Ask Me Anything Session-EU Blockchain Observatory And Forum

The report is based on the interpreter's simulated simultaneous interpreting of an online Ask-Me-Anything(AMA)Session held on June 18 th,2018 by the EU Blockchain Observatory and Forum.By choosing this material,the interpreter wishes to introduce the latest development of European blockchain technology and its widespread prospect to blockchain investors and enthusiasts in China.Since this session is a very professional meeting which requires the interpreter to be equipped with background knowledge of blockchain as well as professional terms in this field,considerable preparations have been made by the interpreter in advance for the better performance of this simulated interpreting practice.With application of Daniel Gile's Effort Model theory,the interpreter has categorized her issues in interpreting process into the three aspects,namely,listening comprehension,short-term memory and speech production.Strong accent of speakers and unfamiliarity with terms are the main obstacles to the interpreter's listening comprehension;enumerations and long sentences lead to overload of the interpreter's short-term memory;speakers' redundancy and self-correction are the main problems in speech production.Under the guidance of the Effort Model,the interpreter used several tactics such as fuzzy interpreting,parrot interpreting,referring to PPT,omission,segmentation and delaying the response to tackle the problems above.Reflection and conclusion are made after the interpreting practice.This report is devoted to throwing light on the challenges and coping tactics in this simulated simultaneous interpreting practice.Thus,it provides a reference to English-Chinese simultaneous interpreting of high-end and professional meetings in the future.
