| The thesis studies the Chinese translation of three chapters from an English popular science book,entitled What a Wonderful World: One Man's Attempt to Explain the Big Stuff.It takes a reception aesthetics approach to tapping the literariness of popular science texts from four aspects,including contents,forms,rhetoric and metaphor.First,attention must be paid to the role of the readers,namely,their reading capacities and habits with a view to exchanging and tying with the horizon of expectation of readers.Second,in line with the structure for calling attention the aesthetic value of translation is determined by the readers.To maximize the readability and acceptance of the translation,translators are entitled to produce and polish the text according to the common aesthetic standards in the target language for the purpose of maintaining or even strengthening the aesthetics of translation.This thesis concludes that the reception aesthetics with the recognition from readers as criteria and standards is of great significance to guide the expression of literariness of popular science translation. |
