A Report On The E-C Translation Of Translators Through History(chapter 6)

The translation practice Translators through History(Chapter 6),whose theme is about cultural communication,is a “world-wide Encyclopedia of translation”co-edited by Jean Delisle,Director,and Judith Woodsworth,Deputy Director of the FIT(International Federation of Translators)Translation History Committee.The sixth chapter of the book Translators and the Spread of Religion elaborates on the translation of the Bible-the most widely-spread classic book of Christianity,and introduces the translation activities of Islam,Hinduism and Buddhism by focusing on the role of translators in the development of religious culture translation,which is of great guiding significance to religious translation.Eugene Nida's translation theory is scientific and mature,which requires the translator to find the natural equivalence in the target language as close as possible to the source language.On the basis of Eugene Nida's Functional Equivalence Theory,this paper explores the application of it in the translation practice process from lexical,syntactical and textual levels.Strategies such as omission,annotation,division,voice transformation and reconstruction are used for specific case analysis to achieve the combination of the Functional Equivalence Theory and practice.An in-depth and objective analysis is conducted on the translation process of informative texts based on the study of religious translation history.This report holds that the Functional Equivalence Theory is of great guiding significance and irreplaceable reference value in the translation practice of texts on religious translation history study-an important branch of informative texts.Through this exploration of translation practice,the author has achieved a deeper understanding of the study on religious translation history and hopes to lay a solid foundation for future translation tasks of similar informative texts.
