| The source text of the translation practice is Test Case,an article in The New Yorker,which is a famous American magazine.It mainly introduces the development process of PREP for PREP which is a leadership development program that offers promising students of color access to a private school education based in New York City.The text is an educational informative text,involving important events and figures in the history of western education.In the original text,post-positional attributives occur frequently.As the syntactic function and semantic relationship of post-positional attributives in English are not always completely equivalent,and there are great differences between Chinese and English in expression habit and language form,post-positional attributives are selected as the focus of the case analysis.In this report,the background of the task and the translation process are comprehensively expounded.According to characteristics of the informative text and Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory as the guidance of the translation,the author briefly counts and analyzes the frequency and types of post-positional attributives in this text.The report focuses on the difficulties and solutions encountered in the translation and revision process,which provides experience for the future study.Through case study the author concludes that in the translation process,it is essential for the translator to clarify the components modified by post-positional attributives and understand the logical and semantic relationship among them.And then translation methods are adopted flexibly according to the specific and different situations.The author adopts the translation methods of omission,division,translating into pre-modifiers and translating into adverbial clauses to ensure the accuracy of the information conveyance and the fluency and readability of the translation.The findings of report are expected to bring some inspiration for others who are also facing trouble in translating post-positional attributives. |
