Hans Christian Andersen,a famous Danish writer in the 19 th century, whose fairy tales spread widely around the world and have brought vivid fairytale experiences to readers all over the world. He is therefore known as the "Sun of Children's Literature in the World".However, the achievements in the field of children's literature have also concealed his identity of a serious writer. As a result, studies of Andersen and Andersen's fairy tales are unable to get rid of the restraint of children's literature. This article attempts to break away from the stereotypes of Andersen's fairy tales and re-examine the fairy tales by taking ecological criticism as a rule. The text is divided into three chapters:The first chapter aims to explore the source of ecological thought in Andersen's fairy tale.Whether it is mountains and rivers, insects, birds and beasts,or wind and rain, all creatures or non-living in nature play a key role in Andersen's fairy tales.Andersen's affinity and love for nature is directly related to his personal experience, background of the times and the environment of growth. These factors influence the formation and development of Andersen's view of nature and ecology from different dimensions, thus becoming the source of ecological philosophies in his fairy tales. The second chapter looks at the natural writing in Andersen's fairy tales.Nature is the object of writing that Andersen is particularly favored in his fairy tales.Whether it is the indifference to natural life, the construction of human life course integrated into the natural circulation,or the concern for animal rights, they all reflect that Andersen's natural writing is based on the abolition of anthropocentrism and the construction of ecological holism. The third chapter focuses on the scientific writing in Andersen's fairy tales.Along with the triumph of industrialization and urbanization, natural beauty gradually retreats from human aesthetics.Extremely expansive desires dominate human behavior, and there are also identity alienation and spiritual loss caused by the fierce collision between urban civilization and rural civilization. The fairy tales of Andersen's later period also express his doubts and concerns while highlighting the power of science and technology.Andersen's fairy tale is not a typical ecological literary text, but it is extremely valuable for ecological research. Both the natural writing and the scientific writing highlight the ecological mission and responsibility of Andersen as a writer.Studying Andersen's fairy tales from an ecological and green perspective not only echoes the current wave of environmental protection movements around the world and promotes positive reflection on human's modern diseases, but also injects new vitality into the classic literary treasures of Andersen's fairy tales.
