In modern times, exchanges between countries are getting more and more frequent.Interpreting has become an important means of communication between different countries.Idioms,as the epitome of a country or region's specific culture, are increasingly used in various interpreting activities. This study is based on a corpus of President Xi's political speeches from the year2014 to 2018,which was conducted through a descriptive research method. The author classified the idioms cited from President Xi's speeches into five categories, they are respectively set phrases, ancient poetry and prose, colloquialisms, proverbs and allusions. After further analysis of the interpreted texts of the idioms, the author finds that there are four strategies for interpreting Chinese idioms by professional interpreters, they are paraphrasing, literal interpreting, borrowing and omission. The findings of the study will have implications for interpreting as well as the teaching of interpreting.
