The faculty collective bargaining agreement is an agreement reached between the college authorities and teachers concerning the wage, welfare and working conditions through equal negotiation, which is binding on both parties. This legal agreement clearly stipulates two parties' rights and obligations and it is designed to protect teachers' legitimate interests from infringement. As there are relatively few researches and practices on the translation of the collective bargaining agreement in China, this report would not only provide a reference for the future translation in this field, but strengthen Chinese people's understanding of it.Grasping the text features of the agreement is the foundation and key for drafting and translating an English agreement.Based on the translation practice of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the California Faculty Association and the Board of Trustees of the California State University UNIT3: FACULTY,the author, through exploring the features of the legal collective bargaining agreement at lexical, syntactic and textual level, summarizes that during the translation of the English agreement, the linguistic expression should be accurate, rigorous and standardized. The author also analyzes the problems and difficulties during the translation and then generalizes the corresponding methods.During the translation of the English agreement text, the translator should firstly guarantee the translation version faithfully conveys the contents of the original text. Moreover, the translator needs to respect the reading habits of target readers, taking readers' cultural and linguistic features into consideration. At the same time, the appropriate computer aided translation tool is essential for ensuring the coherence of translation and increasing the translation efficiency.
