This essay explores the spiritual dilemma and survival dilemma of Wang Xiaobo's novel Love as Soft as Water through protagonists' cracks among gender, subject and existence. The full text is mainly divided into three parts. In the first part, this article explains the conflict between the natural characteristics of LGBT and the acquired gender discipline.First, the author explores the gender identity of Alan and find that he is a physiological male who thinks he is a woman. He can't completely get rid of his male identity. So he is a androgyny, swinging between the two genders. But his gender choice is still based on gender stereotypes.Secondly, this article explores the sexual orientation of the protagonist Xiaoshi, and find the homosexual instinct that he is suppressed and appears inadvertently. His sexual orientation is in a mixed state. He can find heterosexual orientation in men and practice homosexual orientation in women.Although the two protagonists violated the traditional gender discipline, they did not find a proper discourse to establish their legal status and fell into an inextricable identity gap.In the second part, this article explains Alan attempt to satisfy the survival needs by being a Masochism, but he can't get the real subject position in this false role play. The relationship between Xiaoshi and Alan is a kind of master-slave relationship which is similar to the husband-wife relationship and mother-child relationship. As a slave,Alan realized his own value in the dedication to Xiaoshi, and found a sense of belonging in this strong connection.Xiaoshi and Alan is the relationship between the police and criminal.Alan felt his beauty and self-esteem in his arrest. In the game with the police,Alan tempted the justice messenger to the evil side, and thus gained an implicit power of control. However, his pursuit of self-worth is nothing more than an illusory subjective performance. It is a process of experience rather than a result. In essence,it is an act of self-giving meaning and self-moving.Alan is caught in the middle of the subjective and unable to extricate himself. In the third part, this article explores the confrontation between human biological nature and social civilization. On the one hand, the protagonist seems to love all the beautiful things and practices a variety of aesthetics, but Alan still can not break the bondage of social discipline. On the other hand, the protagonist lives on the principle of happiness, follows the human nature, and is unwilling to become a hypocritical person who hides his nature under the requirements of moral civilization. However,he is classified as a "slut" and cannot change his own real status,so he falls into a crack which is created by duality and essential civilization. In the fourth part, this article explores the question that minority groups does not know where to go.On the one hand, society ridicules and exiles them, leaving them to lose their external qualifications for resistance. On the other hand, social discipline has penetrated into their hearts, causing them to lose the internal forces of resistance. At the same time, explain the differences and similarities between Wang Xiaobo's concept and Queer theory, return to the history of literature, and summarize the value and enlightenment of Love as Soft as Water.
