In order to meet the requirements of “speaking” in the New Curriculum Standards for English in Primary Schools,the needs of passing oral test in L city 2020 middle school entrance examination,and to change the situation of "dumb English" in rural primary school students and clear up the obstacles of students' oral English output,we must enhance students' oral communication and expressive ability.This study focuses on the causes and countermeasures of rural students' oral English output obstacles,and provides suggestions and directions for rural primary school English teaching in future.This dissertation investigates the current situation of rural primary school students' spoken English by means of literature review,observation,questionnaire and interview.The following problems are found,poor pronunciation and incorrect intonation,lack of vocabulary,irregular expression,and inactive participation in activities and inability of listening.Through the research,the factors causing rural pupils' oral English output obstacles can be concluded as psychological problems and inadequate language knowledge of the students,inadequate ability of their teachers,unfavorable family circumstance and lack of educational resources.Finally,the corresponding countermeasures are proposed for students,teachers,parents and schools respectively.Students should realize the importance of oral English,focus on learning basic knowledge and overcome psychological anxiety;Teachers should focus on language input and output to improve students' language-based skills,create a good language learning environment to care about the students' emotions,design a variety of teaching activities to cultivate students' cooperative spirit,improve their own professional ability and teaching methods,use language block teaching and promote oral output;Parents should create a good language atmosphere for children and pay attention to children's interests on learning English;Schools should strengthen the construction of language circumstance,lengthen the amounts of English class,strengthen teacher training and improve teachers' professional quality.Only by working together of all participants can we break the barriers of English oral output.
