In simultaneous interpretation, the quality of the translation is often affected by the poor management of ear-voice span(EVS).After sorting out the author's practice of simultaneous interpretation, the author finds that when the length of EVS is too long, missing interpretation and misinterpretation are more likely to occur. Therefore, the author analyzes the problem of long EVS and gives advices of corresponding strategies. This thesis takes the simulation conference “the 2018 Tokio Marine Group IR Conference” as a case, combined with the characteristics of Japanese into Chinese simultaneous interpretation to discuss the problem of long EVS.After defining normal EVS and long EVS based on the quantitative analysis of the case, the author has classified the problem of long EVS into two situations to discuss, analyzes missing interpretation and misinterpretation that caused by long EVS,and propose the strategies according to different situations. The accumulation of EVS and improper strategies of interpretation will lengthen EVS,and long EVS will lead to missing interpretation and misinterpretation.Based on the principle of efficiency and faithfulness, the author proposes the strategies from two aspects. The first is to avoid the increase of EVS by interpreting based on the original structure and anticipation.Second, when EVS is already too long,it is proper to improve the quality of interpretation and reduce missing interpretation and misinterpretation through the methods such as simplification, omission and reformulation. But the most fundamental thing is to grasp the speaker's intention and convey what the speaker wants to express.EVS is inevitable in simultaneous interpretation, which is not a problem itself, however,it is of great significance to keep EVS in appropriate range and avoid long EVS for the improvement of the quality of simultaneous interpretation.
