Chinese and English are very different in speaking.Unlike the explicit logic of English speeches,Chinese speeches sometimes have an implicit logic that can only be understood after further transformation.“Explicitation” represents the process of presenting these speeches within a clear logic framework.During consecutive interpretations, interpreters need to “explicitate” the implicit logics of Chinese speeches to offer a high quality service by letting the English-speaking audiences fully understand what the Chinese speaker wants to say.Based on the case of a mock conference, the analysis first lists some failed examples of explicitation and divides them into categories. Then,it explores the reasons of the failures by analyzing the three steps of interpreting: listening, taking notes and producing. Finally, according to the reasons,it puts forward a possible set of strategies for explicitation. An effective set of explicitation strategies should be evolutionary with the constant practice of interpreters. So rather than focusing solely on the on-site interpretation itself, the strategies also include pre-interpretation preparation and post-interpretation reflection, which intend to boost the efficiency of explicitation strategies on site. For on-site interpretation, there are sub-divided strategies for listening, taking notes and producing respectively. The triplicity of pre-interpretation preparation,on-site interpretation and post-interpretation reflection form the integrated set of strategies for explicitation.
