Explicitation is an important topic in translation studies. There are more researches on that in translation than in interpreting.Due to the immediacy and communicative nature of interpretation, the application of explicitation in interpretation is conducive. In fact,I find that it is precisely the lack of explicitation in interpretation that causes rendition to be vague or incorrect. The case selected in this article is the "Mock Conference of Shenzhen IT Leaders' Summit ",which I personally participated. The speech at the meeting is a natural speech with logic, clarity but colloquial.I hope to find the cause and improvement methods by analyzing the lack of explicitation in this case. This article first discusses the previous studies and the definition of explicitation in interpretation and points out the necessity of it in interpretation. After that, the author classified the explicitation from the perspective of functional linguistics, analyzed the examples in the mock conference from the conceptual, textual, and interpersonal levels, followed by revised translations. Finally, the article concludes and proposes that the lack of explicitation is mainly due to the lack of knowledge of the general differences between Chinese and English languages, which hinders listening comprehension;the listening comprehension is also too focused on single sentences, rather than textual connections and the communicative nature of interpretation. The suggested methods for improving the lack of Explication include identifying key message instead of all details, increasing awareness of the communicative function of interpreting and improving background knowledge.
