A Report On C-E Translation Of Terms Of Reference For B20 China Taskforce Working Groups

This is a report on the Group of Twenty(G20)International Business Summit(B20 Summit)conference material,Terms of Reference for B20 China Taskforce Working Groups,which is selected from the translation project done by the author during internship in China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Hunan Sub-Council(CCPIT Hunan).The B20 undertakes the important mission in Global economy,and the B20 taskforces underpin the success of the B20.Therefore,it is very necessary to conclude the adopted translation methods and the difficulties encountered in the translation process,which will have actual guiding effects on translating future B20 taskforce materials and then improve the translation quality and efficiency of this type of the text.It is every translator's glorious duty to accurately convey the achievements and difficulties of global business comnunity to the G20 and to make the B20 contribute to the prosperity of intermational business community as well as global govermance.The source text commissioned by CCPIT is required to be translated from Chinese into English.The source text with 12,000 words introduces the objectives,responsibilities and key deliverables of B20 China Taskforce in detail.After careful consideration and research,the source text is defined as an informative text;the language style in the source text is objective and formal,and the most difficult problem for the translator is how to word the target text to show the features of the source text and make the target text understood by target readers,so the functionalist theory-Skopos Theory i5 adopted to guide the translation practiee and achieve the expected effects.Under the guidance of the three rules of Skopos Theory,proper translation methods are selected flexibly according to the communicative purpose of the source text,such as corrversion,inversion,amplification,phrasing method and comprehensive method.This report introduces the main information of the translation task at first;then the translation process is described in detail;after that,case analysis is made,which analyzes the source text and the target text in detail and makes the exclusive conclusion of the translation methods on the basis of the three rules from Skopos Theory.In the case analysis,by comparing the drafted version with the modified version,it is found that Skopos Theory has actual guiding effects on the B20 taskforces informative text and can make the target text more objective and formal,which works on the practicability,authenticity,readability and clarity.Finally,difficulties,solutions and implication are concluded from the tiranslation practice and it is thought that this report exemplifies the Skopos Theory can serve as feasible and effective guidance for the translation of similar texts.
