The first Industrial Revolution was a profound social change, with Britain's population exploding and its urbanization accelerating. With the rapid development of cities, many problems have come with them. How to feed the swelling population is one of them.Manchester was one of the fastest growing cities in Britain during the first Industrial Revolution, and it provides a sample for us to analyze the historical relationship between the rapid development of British and grain supply. With the first Industrial Revolution and urbanization,Manchester developed from a rural village and small town into an industrial city and industrial center.Manchester's urban population grew rapidly, the city grew in size, and it attracted immigrants from Ireland and near counties. The population explosion in Manchester is the main cause of the grain supply problems. The development of industry in Manchester has attracted a large number of agricultural surplus population. In addition, changes in the relative rise of people's wage level, the improvement of living standard, the increase of food variety and the increased demand for livestock products have also affected the grain supply of Manchester in the industrial and urban process.During the first Industrial Revolution,Manchester's grain supply problems were manifested in many ways.First, the growing import of British grain and the impact of more than 20 years of war between Britain and France(these problems at the national level)are bound to have an impact on the grain supply in this part of Manchester.Secondly, with the promotion of industrialization, the development of wholesale and retail industry in Manchester was promoted.Although it further met the needs of the increasing population, the development was not mature. Moreover, the social problems in Manchester during this period, such as social unrest, riots and destruction, were also inseparable from the emergence of grain supply problems in Manchester. Finally, the land pollution caused by industrialization and urbanization has also inevitably affected the production of corn and the grain supply.During the first Industrial Revolution,a number of canals and railways were built in Manchester and Britain, which facilitated the supply of grain for industrialization and urbanization and provided a reliable material guarantee for the development of urban industry in Manchester. The Anti-corn Laws League in Manchester in the 1830 s led to the repeal of the Corn Laws in 1846,ushering in an era of free trade in Britain, ensuring the nation's food supply and defending the interests of the industrial bourgeoisie.During the first industrial revolution, the enclosure movement of the British parliament increased the productivity of corn and further ensured the supply of corn.
