During consecutive interpreting practice, visual aids are often provided, which exist in the form of bilingual background plates, speech scripts, slides, etc, which are beneficial to both preparation before interpretation and on-spot interpretation. However, the study on interpreting with visual aids is not often seen. The study leverages Daniel Gile's effort model as the theoretical framework, and executes a comparative study on the differences of the quality of consecutive interpreting output with visual aids and without visual aids, which specifically deal with slides in this study, and the experiment participants are all student interpreters. The experimental result shows that, slides,as a kind of visual aids, can effectively boost the accuracy of information of consecutive interpreting output, but also decrease fluency of reproducing to a certain degree at the same time, and slides have no definite influence on grammar correctness of consecutive interpreting output.Through comparing the quality of consecutive interpreting output with and without slides, the study analyzes slides' assistance to the quality of consecutive interpreting output, and puts forward new equations of the effort model, which can be applied to the mode of consecutive interpreting with slides and brings the traditional effort model in line with the times.Apart from that, the study also raises techniques and strategies for consecutive interpreting with the presence of slides.
