A Research On Live TV Interpreting For Press Conferences Under The Interpretive Theory

Although America now holds unilateralism.globalization is an irresistible trend.In this community with a shared future for mankind,the public pay attention to the latest updates both domestically and internationally.Correspondingly,the media has to go global and report international events.Due to distinct languages and cultural backgrounds,interpretation is indispensable to bridge the gap during news broadcast.In this context,live TV interpretation has gained momentum since 2003 when the authoritative media reported the Iraq War.Today,with emerging We-Media and convergence media platforms,mobile phone-based media outlets are widely adopting TV interpretation during live broadcast to attract the audience.Given the unique features of live TV interpretation compared with traditional conference interpretation in technology,roles of interpreters and the nature of TV programs,relevant academic studies are important to steer live TV interpretation toward healthy development This study focuses on live TV interpreting for press conferences with the example of two interpretation versions of Carlos Ghosn's Press Conference in Beirut in January 2020 under the Interpretative Theory.The Interpretive Theory of Translation was established by Professor Danica Seleskovitch and Professor Marianne Lederer at ESIT.It is believed that interpretation is not to interpret the language through symbol shifts or seek equivalence among words,phrases and fixed grammar but to convey the message and realize correspondence of the sense.Under the Interpretive Theory,predecessors have put forward six strategies of interpretation,namely finding equivalence,adding information,simplification,affirmative versus negative transition,sentence restructuring and deverbalization.Based on the six interpretation strategies,the research evaluates compares and analyzes the two versions of live TV interpretation of Carlos Ghosn's Press Conference in order to prove the effectiveness of the proposed strategies and provide improvements for further practices and exercise during live TV interpretation.
