| This article is a simulated consecutive interpretation report.The interpreting material is the audio version of the BBC documentary Live Forever:The Rise and Fall of Brit Pop.The author believes that the combination of interpretation and cultural documentary can be used to facilitate cross-cultural communication through interpreting practices and at title same time enrich the connotation of interpreting practices with culture.The author divided the audio of the target documentary into several short audio sections of about 60 seconds,which are similar to the examination mode of CATTI(China Accreditation Test for Translators and Interpreters)level 2 for interpreters.The interpreting process was supported by notes and recorded from the very beginning to the last sentence.Then,materials were collected as the study objects,including audio text,interpreting text and note-taking photos.The report records the entire process of simulated interpreting in details,including main difficulties and the corresponding solutions.During the task,the author encountered many difficulties,such as difficulties in comprehension caused by the variety of speaking styles or lack of related knowledge,difficulties in note-taking caused by difficult grammar or speaker's lack of logic,and difficulties in re-expression.The Interpretive Theory of Translation(ITT)divides the process of interpretation into three stages,namely,comprehension,de-verbalization and re-expression.After analysis,these three stages could precisely correspond with each of the three categories of difficulties the author encountered during interpreting.Therefore,in the solution section,the author tried to use ITT as a guiding theory to optimize the interpreting process.The author puts forward that getting acquaintance with predicted speaking styles and acquiring related knowledge in a holistic manner can solve the comprehension problem.And the ultimate function of note-taking should be assisting de-verbalization and re-expression. |
