A Report On The Translation Of Metaphor In Globalized Finance And Varieties Of Capitalism

This report is based on the translation of metaphors in the excerpt of the business text Globalized Finance and Varieties of Capitalism,featuring metaphors,a rhetorical device and a means of cognition of the objective world as well.How to realize the information transmission of metaphors accurately is the problem that this report needs to solve.The cognition of metaphors of people from different cultures who adopt different tenors in their use hinders the translation of metaphors.Therefore,in order to reproduce the figurative meanings,it is required to translate the metaphors of the source language into the metaphors of the target language which can be accepted by Chinese readers through analysis and organization.In virtue of Lakoff's theory of metaphor,metaphors in the source text are mainly categorized into three types:Structural Metaphor,Entity and Substance Metaphor and Orientational Metaphor,and examples are cited to illustrate them.To make sure the accuracy and readability of the translated text,different strategies are applied,including:reproducing the same vehicles,translating metaphor by simile,replacing the original vehicles with standard ones in the target language,and deleting the original image and simply translating the figurative meaning.
