Strategies For Chinese To English Translation Of Political Terms In Publicity Materials

The translation of political term is far from satisfactory due to the translators' negligence of the difference between domestic and international publicity,of the cultural and ideological gap.Therefore the paper is dedicated to decoding the translation of political terms by mitigating cultural,cognitive and ideological differences.Following an in-depth study on cases,the author come to the conclusion that the following translation strategies can be adopted: conventional translation and literal translation can be used for handling proper name;culturally loaded words can be translated through substitution or explicitation;while addition of category words,supplementation of meaning,or rendition can be used to translate slogans.The author hope the translation strategies provided in this paper can serve as reference for other translators in terms of Chinese to English translation of political terms.
