The main function of scientific and technological texts is to explain natural phenomena,social phenomena and ways of thinking,directly serving the development of natural and social science,promoting social development and progress.The lexical and syntactic features of scientific and technological texts are different from those of general English.Therefore,while translating these texts,to solve the problems at the lexical and syntactic levels is the key factor to determine the quality of translation.Hazardous Waste in Australia 2017 is a scientific and technological text.Translator faces two problems during translation practice.In terms of vocabulary,there are a large number of technical vocabulary,especially chemical vocabulary,including terminology and quasi-terminology.In terms of syntax,there are a large number of complex sentences.This paper is based on the translation practice of two chapters of Hazardous Waste in Australia 2017,guided by Skopos theory.Skopos theory holds that the purpose of translation determines the method of translation.In translating technical vocabulary,the translator uses three methods:literal translation,free translation and abbreviation translation.In translating complex sentences,translator uses two methods:linear translation and sentence reconstruction.Problems and the solutions mentioned above constitute the main part of this report.Through this translation practice,the translator studies and summarizes the problems mentioned above,and summarizes the technical vocabulary involved in the text,in order to provide reference for later translators translating similar texts,and also to provide some information for the professionals who study this topic in our country.
