A Practice Report Of Simulated Simultaneous Interpretation From A Perspective Of Interpretive Theory

This paper is a practice report of a simulated simultaneous interpretation.The material selected is the speech delivered by Theresa May,British prime minister,at the annual meeting of 2018 world economic forum.This paper is divided into four chapters.The first chapter is the introduction of practical background and relevant theories.The second chapter is pre-translation preparation which consists of long-term preparation stage and temporary preparation stage.The third chapter is a comparative analysis of the parallel texts.On the basis of the interpretive theory,this part focuses on the following four issues.Firstly,the specific application of the principle of"following the structure" in simultaneous interpretation,such as segmentation of long sentences.Secondly,explicitation,which is always carried out in English-Chinese translation in order to make the meaning of the speech clearer.Thirdly,the reasons and solutions for inconsistent interpretation of the same English word during the speech.Fourthly,the solution to the problem of improper language style appears in conference context.The last chapter can be seen as a conclusion,which is divided into two parts,namely,quality assessment and reflection.Since there is no official translation version of this speech,the author makes a self-evaluation of the interpretation text according to the quality assessment standards proposed by experts and researchers in this field,and points out the shortcomings of this methodology at the same time.The purpose of this practice report is to discover and solve practical problems in interpretation and to accumulate experience for the interpreter,with the hope of being able to bring inspirations for other cases that encounter same problems during interpreting practice.
