| Xi Jinping: The Governance of China I introduces the governing philosophy of the Party and the national leaders and various domestic policies.It is of great significance for the international community to understand the China's development comprehensively and objectively and its external publicity.Therefore,its English translation is of great importance.This book contains a lot of Chinese characteristic words,and there are plenty of four-Chinese-character structures in this book.They are distinctive language form with the rigorous structure,rich connotation,concise and comprehensive characteristics.The accurate translation of them will help foreign readers understand Xi Jinping's philosophy on governing the country and China's political affairs better.Through literature review,the translation studies of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China I has the studies of vocabulary,syntax,discourse,text style and other aspects,but there are few studies on the translation study of four-Chinese-character structures.Besides,most of the studies are conducted from the perspectives of Eco-translatology,relevance theory,hermeneutics,and adaptation theory and so on.Few of them are conducted from the perspective of skopos theory.Therefore,based on skopos theory,this paper will explore the English translation of four-Chinese-character structures in this book systematically guided by skopos theory.According to the review of literature,this study firstly explained the definition,form,characteristics and classification of them.Combining with the classification of them in related political essays and the characteristics of them in the book,the author classified them into four types which are respectively four-Chinese-character idioms,conventionalized four-Chinese-character structures,policy-related four-character structures,parallel four-Chinese-character structures.Secondly,the author collected and classified four-Chinese-character structures in the book based on the definitions and classifications of them summarized before,then found out the corresponding English translation in the English version of the book and use them as corpus of this study.Finally,some case studies on the translation of the four types were analyzed from the perspective of skopos theory,especially its three principles.Studies have shown that,firstly,Skopos theory,especially its three rules,is applicable to the translation study of four-Chinese-character structures in this book.The translator should pay attention to the completeness,accuracy and readability of four-Chinese-character structures when translating them,the acceptability of target language readers,and the fidelity of the source text and target text.These factors conform to the three rules of skopos theory,which also shows that the three rules of skopos theory can guide the translation study of four-Chinese-character structures in the book.Secondly,the author found that the translation strategies used in the English translation of them include explanation,extension,conversion,deletion,combination,and correspondence under the guidance of skopos theory.In addition,the translator also used multiple strategies combination which was used to translate parallel four-Chinese-character structures.The same four-Chinese-character structure or same group of four-Chinese-character structures appeared several times in the text,some of them were used the same translation strategies while others were used different translation strategies.The use of translation strategies depends on the characteristics of four-Chinese-character structures,the context of the text and the translator's translation purpose.Thirdly,the Chinese culture can be transmitted to the world through the the vocabulary and the translation study on four-Chinese-character structures of this book facilitates the external publicity and the goal of “going out” of culture can be realized,which can deepen the understanding of the rest of the world for China and strengthen cooperation and exchanges with China. |
