Selected E-C Translation Of Chapter Seven Of Brand Society And A Critical Commentary

This translation project consists of two parts.The first part is the E-C translation of Chapter 7 of Brand Society.It covers knowledge of marketing,psychology and politics.It also elaborates on the mechanism of brands,with an array of easy-reading practical case studies rather than high-sounding theories to help the readers to learn about the power of brands and their influence on the lives of individuals.The second part is the translation report based on this translation.The report consists of four parts.The first part is task description,including an introduction to the background of the project,translation process and a textual analysis.The translation process comprises pre-translation,translation,the revision and polish of the draft and finalization of the translation and problems encountered in translation.The textual analysis introduces the content of the source text,analyzes its characteristics and discusses the significance of translating it.The second part introduces skopos theory and it's guidance for translation.The three main rules of skopos theory and relevant studies about it are discussed.The third part explores the choice of translation strategies under the guidance of skopos theory and analyzes the application of translation skills through specific examples,especially,domestication and foreignization.In view of the problems the translator has encountered,such translation skills are discussed as compensations and conversion.The fifth part mainly talks about the translator's thinking about the translation project and the problems yet to be solved.The aim of this report is to seek possible solutions to the problems that may be encountered in translating popular business monographs.It is hoped that the effort of the translator in executing this project will throw light on solution of problems that other translators may come across when handling similar texts.
