China and Indonesia have a long history of communicative interchange.Over time,China has gained more and more power,and the influence of Chinese language has further increased.Nowadays,the interest in learning Chinese has been increasing both among students of Chinese origin and not of Chinese origin.The Tangerang region is the main location where citizens of Chinese origin from Benteng city converge.It has experienced a variety of situations:from observing the steady growth and flourishment of the Chinese language,to watching its decline and later reemergence.Therefore,the issues related to the use of Chinese textbooks deserves attention.As both foreign and domestic textbooks are in use,this thesis aims to discuss the current situation of Chinese textbook usage in Tangerang region based on the examples of five private schools.The author used the research methods of interviews and questionnaires in order to analyze the use of Chinese textbooks in the demarked schools.To get detailed information on the circumstances surrounding textbook usage,the author chose the following schools:Buddhi,Setia Bhakti,Ariya Metta,Dian Bangsa,Bodhisatta as their research target.The information on the specific situations of textbook usage in these private schools and the results gathered from the questionnaires were then brokendown and analysed into four main areas:(1)analysis of foreign textbooks,(2)analysis of local textbooks,(3)evaluation of textbooks’ selection and problems with next-stage learning(4)textbooks in common use.This thesis specifically discusses the origin of textbooks,the sources of publication,textbook selection,usage time and the advantages and disadvantages of the various textbooks.Lastly,based on the results and information gathered from the research and investigation,various suggestions were provided on the division of textbooks into foreign and local textbooks,on the evaluation of textbooks,their selection and the problems with next-stage learning.
