Economic globalization is progressing at a non-stop pace accompanied with ever-advancing scientific and technological development.Petroleum has become important resources around the world.Nowadays, various countries are developing refining technologies to improve the quality of petroleum resources and the cleanliness of petroleum fuels.Science and technology translation will benefit the communication and facilitate the reform of science and culture;it is thus acting an indispensable role in social progress and national development. This is an English-Chinese translation practice report on Unicracking Unit Technical Appendices. The translator takes the source and the translated text as the research material, and tries to solve the difficulties found in the translation process under the guidance of Functional Equivalence Theory. The practice report is divided into five parts. In the first part,it is a brief introduction about the task.In the second part, there is a description of translation process, including pre-translation,while-translation and post-translation.In the third part, there is the Functional Equivalence Theory introduction in the translation process. In the fourth part “Case Analysis”,the most important part in this report, the difficult and typical translation difficulties are analyzed from lexical, syntactic and discourse levels. The last part is a summary of this translation practice. On the one hand, the report can enrich the application of functional equivalence theory in petrochemical texts. On the other hand,it can provide English-Chinese translation materials of cracking and hydrogenation, and promote the development of petrochemical industry.
