With the deepening of International communication,especially the implementation of the "the Belt and Road Initiative",China has made great achievements in international communication.Nowadays,it has become an essential issue to publicize China's voice and China's views.But in the process of publicity,vocabulary with Chinese characteristics plays an significant role.These vocabularies with Chinese characteristics often appear in government work reports,which can vividly reflect the current development of countries and regions and people's living standards.As one of the central cities in the Yangtze River Delta,Hangzhou has become an important window for China's foreign development.Therefore,it is of great significance to select "Hangzhou Government Work Report in 2018" as the translating material.This report is a summary of the C-E translation practice of vocabulary with Chinese characteristics in the 2018 Hangzhou government work report(hereinafter referred to as the "Report").The "Report" is a relatively systematic and comprehensive material on politics,economy,culture and society in Hangzhou,totaling 18,000 words.It is mainly divided into two parts:the first part is a review work of 2017,and the second part is an analysis of the current situation and the key work in 2018.This report is divided into five chapters.The first chapter is an introduction of translation tasks,which mainly introduces the content,translation purpose as well as the significance of translation materials.The second chapter is a detailed overview of the entire translation process from three aspects:preparation,translation process and post-translation review.The third chapter is the introduction to the theoretical basis,mainly expounding the three characteristics and four dimensions of adaptation theory.The fourth chapter is the key point of this point.Under the guidance of adaptation theory,this paper analyzes the English translation strategies of the vocabularies with Chinese characteristics in the Report.The fifth chapter is a summary of the report.This report draws the following conclusions:(1)Political vocabularies with Chinese characteristics are the most dynamic vocabularies.When translating such vocabularies,translator need adhere to the translation principle of dynamic equivalence,and take literal translation with explanation so as to make translation accurate.(2)Economic vocabularies with Chinese characteristics usually reflect the current situation,and their meanings often vary from different context.Therefore,when translating such vocabularies,translator need adhere to the principle of restoring the source language information,and use explanatory methods to express the semantics of the vocabulary.(3)Cultural vocabulary with Chinese characteristics usually cannot find the same expression in the target language.Therefore,translators should adjust the information carried by the original vocabulary by annotation,interpretation and other methods so that the translation can achieve the function of cross-cultural communication.(4)Vocabularies of people's livelihood usually vividly reflects people's livelihood issues.When translating such vocabularies,translators need choose transliteration plus annotation or free translation to make the translation conform to the characteristics of the target language at all levels.
