Based on the translation of Safety Assessment Report and Further Recommendations,this report discusses the translation of the noun clauses in it.Safety Assessment Report and Further Recommendations published on the International Maritime Organization official site in August 2019 is an analysis report,including results,methods,regulations or laws,process,CFD simulations,numerical calculations,and event sequence analysis.It belongs to English for science and technology,which includes maritime and fuel and chemical terminology.Noun clauses(including subject clause,object clause,predicative clause,and appositive clause)have been used a lot in the material,so it is worthwhile to consider how to translate it into Chinese accurately.This report discusses the techniques applied in the translation of the noun clauses,such as amplification,omission,and inversion.After translating whole text sentence by sentence,the examples with distinctive nominal features have been selected for analysis,and in order to provide a readable translation,this report also presents translations of the noun clauses,describes and analyses the process of translation via various translation techniques,integrates the ideas from translator into it.Translation techniques involved are as amplification,omission,conversion,and inversion.The translation expects to extremely cover all contents and linguistic features and ensure a readable and accurate translation for fitting science and technology text features via various translation methods and creative translation ideas based on the source text.This report summarizes some viewpoints and ideas from translation practice,which bears a humble effect for future translation studies on maritime text.
