This is a report on an English-Chinese translation practice.The translator selects Chapter 2 of The Forgotten 500,a military factual work written by American writer Gregory A.Freeman,as the source text.This chapter mainly describes the various dangers that the hero Mosegrave and other pilots encountered during World War II and the psychological activities of the characters at that time.In this report,the translator first introduces the background information of the translated text and further presents the purpose and significance of the translation project.The translator elaborates the problems and difficulties encountered in the translation process from the lexical and syntactic levels respectively.For the vocabulary level difficulties,the translator adopts amplification method,word extending method,application of four-character phrase method,omission method and annotation method.For the syntactic difficulties,the translator uses affirmation and negation method,inversion method,division method,and conversion of the voice method.In the process of the translation,the translator strives to translate the source text faithfully and smoothly.In addition,the translator further realizes that a qualified translator not only has to master translation methods and translation skills,but also has to master a solid bilingual foundation and adequate social practice.The translator hopes that the translation can provide some references for other translators concerned.
