Translation Of Culture-loaded Terms In Martial Arts Fiction From Perspective Of Distancing

With distinct cultural characteristics,martial arts fiction(MAF)distinguishes itself from general novels as the epitome of Chinese culture.Naturally,the translation of MAF serves as a platform for spreading Chinese culture and strengthening the influence of Chinese literature.Research on the translation of culture-loaded terms in MAF from the perspective of distancing degree,exemplified by Legends of the Condor Heroes,can be of both theoretical and practical significance to MAF translation.The concept of distancing proposed in Liu Miqing's cultural translation theory is applied to analyze the gains and losses in Legends of the Condor heroes with respect to the translation of culture-loaded terms.Supported by large statistics,this dissertation intends to find the correlation between distancing degree and translating strategies and approachesThe dissertation is a descriptive study with the aid of quantitative analysis,and is constructed under the guidance of cultural distancing.Through both qualitative and quantitative analysis,the author has found that culture-loaded terms in martial arts fiction can be classified on the basis of different distancing,and various translation strategies and approaches are preferred correspondingly.Generally,approaches under domestication strategy are used more frequently than those under foreignization strategy;and the larger the distancing,the higher the frequency of using domestication strategy.However,both strategies have respective advantages and disadvantages,and neither can be abandoned.This study hopes to provide a new perspective for investigating the translation of culture-loaded terms in MAF.
