Translation And Research Of Chu Ci In The West:Current Situation,Problems And Solutions

Qu Yuan,an ancient Chinese poet,is one of the few cultural celebrities in the world.Chu Ci,which mainly records Qu Yuan's works,is not only the treasure of Chu culture,but also the immortal classic of Chinese culture as a whole,and it is loved by people in China and other countries.Chu Ci is one of the two sources of Chinese literature.The style of Chu Ci is gorgeous,romantic,passionate and unrestrained,and the content is mostly about mythology,personal sentiments and imagination;it has a folk-song style,with the tone of the State of Chu,and uses the Chu dialect to describe the special culture of Chu.Chu Ci has been widely spread not only in the East,but also in the West.After the 18 th National Congress of the Communist Party of China,the Chinese government began to implement the strategy of “going out” of Chinese culture.In this context,it is of great practical significance to sort out the overseas translation and research of Chu Ci and study the current situation,problems and solutions with respect to its communication.The purpose of this thesis is to solve the following problems:(1)What is the current situation of the translation and research of Chu Ci in Europe and America?(2)What problems are existent in the translation and research of Chu Ci in Europe and America?(3)What solutions can be worked out to deal with the problems in the translation and research of Chu Ci in Europe and America?(4)What implications for the globalization of Chinese culture can be obtained from the research findings of this study?The purpose of this thesis is to study the cultural factors in the translation of Chu Ci,the textual form and variation methods of translation in the related academic documents,as well as the communication effect of the translation and research texts by combining cultural translation theory,translation variation theory and translation communication theory.From the global and local perspectives,this thesis is to summarize the current problems,and then find the effective solutions.The first step in this study is to summarize the current situation of the spread of Chu Ci in the West;the second step is to find out the main problems in the Western dissemination of Chu Ci.The third step is to find out effective solutions to the problems.This thesis is divided into six chapters.The first chapter is the introduction,which introduces the research background,significance,problems,methods and structure of this thesis.The second chapter is the literature review,including the translation studies of Chu Ci,and the studies of Chu Ci research texts at home and abroad.The third chapter is the theoretical framework of this thesis.First of all,it introduces the basic ideas of cultural translation theory,translation variation theory and cultural communication theory,and then constructs the theoretical framework of this thesis based on the research problems of this thesis.The fourth chapter is one of the main chapters of this thesis.It summarizes the current situations of the translation and research of Chu Ci in Europe and America.It is intended to summarize the current situation of Chu Ci translation,academic research and other communication modes,so as to lay a foundation for finding out the problems in the Western transmission of Chu Ci.The fifth chapter is another major part of this thesis.It finds out the existing problems through the analysis of the current situation of the Western transmission of Chu Ci,then explores the effective solutions to solving the problems according to the theoretical framework of this thesis,and finally discusses the implications for Chinese culture going out based on the Western transmission of Chu Ci.The sixth chapter is the conclusion,which summarizes the main findings of this thesis,points out its limitations,and offers suggestions for future research.It has been found that there are some problems mainly related to translation strategies and some translation weaknesses that hinder the communication of Chu Ci's translation in the West.The problem of translation strategies can be solved via the combined use of foreignization and domestication according to Susan Bassnett's cultural translation theory,whose purpose is to achieve the equivalence of cultural functions.The translation weaknesses can be strengthened according to Professor Huang Zhonglian's variation translation theory.The study of Chu Ci in the West centers around the translators,translations and their dissemination.The problems of translators and translations need to be solved via a long time-period of translating practices.In addition,it is a huge and arduous task for Chinese culture to go global.The realization of this task requires work division and cooperation,coordination and mutual assistance among all relevant parties.
