Cohesion Problems And Solutions In Political And Economic E-C Translation

Cohesion is a significant factor in discourse,and cohesive relations not only can be reflected in words to words,but also in sentences to sentences,and paragraphs to paragraphs.Due to the big cohesive differences between Chinese and English,Translators will present a better translation so long as they keep these different cohesive methods in their mind.Cohesion is representative in English political and economic text,being the key point and difficult point in translation.Based on this,this paper chooses Australia and China in Regional Economic Diplomacy as its case analysis object in this translation practice.Based on the textual cohesion theoretical study of Halliday and Hasan,and the author's own practices,the author categorizes cohesive methods in translation practice.According to the features and expressive customs of Chinese and English,the author makes a detailed analysis of the cohesive problems in this practices and chooses different translation strategies in order to provide some translation references in the future.Closely connected to the perspective of "Discourse Cohesion",this paper concludes the cohesive problems from the following four aspects: unapparent reference and word cohesion,continual substitution and ellipsis,unconspicuous connecting method and cross-class discourse cohesion problems.And it concludes translation strategies to solve discourse cohesion,word cohesion and cross-class cohesion,which are as follows: 1.three approaches to unapparent reference and word cohesion: to use pronoun to substitute reference,consistent recurrence methods,and to strengthen demonstrative;2.to add nouns,verbs and zero substitution translation to deal with continual substitution and ellipsis;3.to enhance causal conjunction,concession conjunction,transition conjunction to cope with unconspicuous connecting method;4.to increase modal verbs,adverbs of time and grammatical cohesion method to manage cross-class discourse cohesion problems.Based on the researches and conclusion of cohesive devices in both Chinese and English,translators demand a comprehensive understanding of them to grasp the main strategies of English-Chinese translation.
