New curriculum standard proposes that the English teaching purpose of the primary school is to arouse the students' interests in learning English.Words play an important role in English learning.Reading and spelling the words correctly can improve reading fluency and comprehending ability in reading articles,and then arouse interest in learning English.But primary school pupils,lacking proper methods,often find it difficult to remember words.Phonics can help children establish connection between sounds and letters combinations,so as to make children read the words correctly according to phonics rules,and in turn lay a solid foundation for reading.Phonics has been used in English-speaking countries for hundreds of years.It was introduced to Chinese mainland in the early 21st century.The Inner Mongolia region has been involved since 2013.Due to the lack of relevant learning and training,different teachers have different understandings of phonics,so the effects of different classes are also different.So finding the affecting factors of phonics in teaching will point out the direction for optimizing the phonics class.This paper based on data collected from questionnaires to teachers and students,and on interviews of teachers,found the following affecting factors in phonics classes.On the teachers' side,the understanding of phonics effect isn't proper;the teaching objectives are inappropriate;teaching methods are few and inflexible and teachers' ability to integrate and recreate teaching materials is insufficient.All of these result in students' lacking of interest in learning and rare application of phonics rules to word study and memorizations.Therefore,based on the discovery,the author explores what the effective strategies and methods can be applied to the phonics class in primary school English teaching to improve the learning efficiency of the phonics class,and help the children "read to learn".New curriculum standard mentioned that the student-oriented education and promote the development of multiple abilities of the students.Therefore,it is necessary to explore how to use the teaching strategies to highlight the students' subjectivity and promote the development of multiple intelligence in the phonics class in primary school English teaching.To solve these questions,and put forward feasible teaching strategies and methods,situational teaching strategies and methods,interesting strategies and methods etc.are carried out.Then by comparing the pre-test and post-test results of the controlled class and the experimental class,we come to the conclusion that the experimental class's performance is much better that the controlled class in reading,spelling and reading fluency.
