The Adult Chinese course is the main course of the Confucius Institute at the University of Newcastle Australia.This paper provides an in-depth analysis of the current status of the course,learners' evaluation feedback and language attitudes using the bibliographic method,natural observation method,questionnaire method and statistical data method.The research method is scientific,based on teaching practice,and combines theory and practice.The article study concluded the following:In terms of the current status of the course,the current courses are scientifically and reasonably set up;the teaching staff is highly professional;the learners come from a wide range of sources and have a wide age range;the teaching materials and resources are diversified to meet the needs of Chinese language courses;there is no uniform testing and evaluation mechanism for the current courses.In terms of the feedback from the learners' evaluation,the learners' satisfaction with the lesson schedule and the overall satisfaction with the Chinese language course are high,as well as the willingness to renew the course and to recommend the course are also high.The suggestions of the learners for the course or activities can be summarized as follows:extend the teaching time appropriately,improve the quality of teaching materials,offer special target courses,strengthen classroom exercises,adjust the proportion of teaching Pinyin and Chinese characters,and organize after-class exercises.In terms of demand for Chinese language learning,the skills that learners want to master most are "speaking"skills;the most preferred type of Chinese class is oral Chinese;they do not know much about the HSK test and related courses and their demand is unclear;most learners want teachers to decide the language of instruction;and learners' acceptance of final tests is not high.In terms of learners' language attitudes,the overall identity of learners' language attitudes ranges from low to high:identification with Chinese language,identification with China and Chinese people,identification with Chinese learning.The main factors influencing language attitudes are "work situation" and "have taken the HSK or not".Based on the above research,the article makes relevant suggestions from five aspects:teachers,textbooks,courses,after-class Chinese learning,and testing and assessment mechanisms.
