A Report On The Translation Of Remastering Morals With Aristotle And Confucius (Excerpts)

This translation report is written based on the translation of a non-literary text.The original text is from the third chapter of Remastering Morals with Aristotle and Confucius,published by Cambridge University and authored by My Sim.In this book,May Sim,by quoting,comparing and analyzing Aristotle's and Confucius' thoughts on virtue,expounded the different requirements of the two philosophers for virtue in different eras from a micro perspective.And from a macro perspective,she also explained the differences between Eastern and Western virtues.And from a prospective aspect,she discussed how to remaster virtue.Whether from the macro or micro aspect,May Sim aims to draw readers' attention to the reconstruction of moral ethics in the context of modern society.The original text is mainly an informative text.In the original text,there are many dashes,complex sentences and philosophical terms.Therefore,in the process of translation,the translator used such translation methods as combination,reconstruction,conversion and so on.The translator discussed some specific translation strategies from three aspects: the translation at the lexical level,the translation at the syntactic level,the translation of the dashes.This report is divided into five parts: the first part introduces the background,significance of this translation task and the structure of this report;the second part gives the author,the structure of the source text and the language features;the third part describes the translation process,including the preparations before translation,the difficulties and problems in translation and quality assurance;the fourth part is case analysis,illustrating how the translator solved the problems encountered in the process of translation;the fifth part is a summary of translation practice,including the experience and lessons learned from this translation task.
